Privacy Policy

        Your receipt file is temporary. Recoup It uses your uploaded receipt to read the purchases on it. We do not retain uploaded files on our servers. We only keep the structured purchase details needed to provide the service, including purchase dates, items, prices, quantities, totals, and store or order information.
        
We do not extract, process, or retain payment-card details or Costco membership numbers from receipt uploads.

1. Information We Collect

Recoup It collects only the information needed to provide account access, savings alerts, and Price Watch:

Account Details: Your email address and secure password for logging into your private account.
Purchase Details: Purchase dates, items, prices, quantities, totals, and store or order information from receipts you upload.
Price Watch: Costco product names or item numbers you choose to follow.
Alert Settings: Your preferred notification choices (email alerts or in-app notifications).
Anonymous Service Counts: Daily totals of homepage views and signup-form openings. These totals do not identify a person, browser, or device.

2. How We Process Receipts & Use Information

Your receipts and data are used exclusively to:

Receipt Ingestion: Digital PDF and text receipts are processed locally on our secure servers. When you upload a photo of a physical paper receipt, the image is securely transcribed in real-time using cloud optical character recognition (Google Gemini Vision API) to identify product names, SKUs, and prices. The image file is immediately deleted upon processing.
Price Tracking & Savings: Organize your purchases and identify the 30-day window when a recent purchase may qualify for a price adjustment under Costco's policy.
Notifications: Monitor Costco prices and send savings alerts showing you how to ask Costco for the price difference.
Service Improvement: Understand, in aggregate, whether visitors can find and complete the signup journey.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We work with trusted infrastructure providers to deliver specific features of the service:

Google Cloud / Gemini Vision: For optical transcription of physical receipt photos. Data is transmitted via encrypted HTTPS and discarded immediately after transcription.
Resend: For transactional email delivery (such as welcome messages and daily price-drop alerts).
Stripe: For optional, secure Food Court Tip Jar contributions. Recoup It never sees or stores full payment card information.

4. Anonymous Aggregate Measurement

Recoup It keeps daily aggregate totals for homepage views and signup-form openings. We do not attach these counts to an account or store an IP address, email address, cookie identifier, browser fingerprint, device identifier, referral source, or receipt information with them. The totals are kept for 180 days and are used only to understand whether the service is easy to find and use. Recoup It does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics tools.

5. Data Protection & Zero Retention

We use industry-standard security safeguards to protect your account and purchase records. Receipt files are never permanently stored on our servers. You have complete ownership of your data.

6. Your Data, Your Control

You can download your purchase data, tracked items, savings alerts, and tip history from Settings anytime (CSV export). You can also clear your purchase history or permanently delete your account and all associated records with one click.
